The Islamorada Foundation received 5-0 unanimous support from the Islamorada Village Council to enter into a 5 year Operating Agreement to manage, operate and buildout Southwinds Park into a passive community park fulfilling the Village of Islamorada’s grant requirements from Florida Communities Trust’s 2004 property acquisition grant.

After approximately 4 weeks of Southwinds Park being identified as a potential site for a future waste water transfer (pump) station, The Islamorada Village Council decided against utilizing the property for such use.

Southwinds Park update – The Islamorada Village Council unanimously (5-0) approved a general management plan for the Southwinds Property. In addition, direction was given to the Village Manager to begin drafting a Management/Operating Agreement for The Islamorada Foundation to move forward in the advancement of the property – into a community park.

UPDATE – Matching donation campaign (Nov 24, 2011 – Feb 14, 2012) – The Islamorada Foundation would like to thank Backcountry Cowboy Outfitters and the many contributors who made the matching donation campaign a great success.

Backcountry Cowboy Outfitters, an Islamorada small business, announced a $5000 matching donation between November 24, 2011 and February 14, 2012. They will match, dollar for dollar, up to $5000 in donations made to the Islamorada Foundation until February 14, 2012. What a great kickstart to 2012 for The Islamorada Foundation.

Southwinds Park – Approval to move forward. After meeting with the 5 member Islamorada Village Council, a 4-1 decision to allow The Islamorada Foundation to proceed in advancing the Southwinds property into a community park was decided upon. Continued administrative and plan review meetings and fundraising will now begin.

The Islamorada Foundation presented a future design, fundraising potential, build out and operating agreement of Southwinds Park at MM 82.1 on Upper Matecumbe Key to the Village of Islamorada Council. 5-0 support from the Village Council clears the first hurdle toward providing a passive community park on the 1.1 acre site.

$5000 Matching Gift Challenge – Islamorada residents and foundation supporters, Buddy & Shay Wilton met with the Board of Directors and challenged the foundation to a $5000 matching gift. Our efforts to raise $5000 will be met with a $5000 matching gift from The Wilton’s.

The Islamorada Foundation launched it’s merchandise and apparel program. This program is designed to create a year round platform for revenue and branding of the foundation. We kicked off the program offering caps, visors and Tervis Tumblers at area retailers with all proceeds to benefit The Islamorada Foundation’s general account. Our kickoff was a great success and a near immediate sell out.
