The community became an incorporated village in 1997 and is comprised of 4 islands – Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe Key and Lower Matecumbe Key. Of the 106 mile island chain of the Florida Keys, The Village of Islamorada consists of 19 of those miles, traveling northeast from KeyWest (MM 0) on US 1, Islamorada begins at Mile Marker 72 and ends at Mile Marker 91.
